Measurement and Ways to Wear the Dress:
It comes in a Free Size. It is meant to have a baggy fit. However you can adjust it with a simple belt. You can also turn it from a one piece to a 'two piece' look (click here to see the 'top and skirt' look). The front collar opening can be extended (sliced open) so as to make the front open cut longer over the chest area (allowing more of your chest to appear). The sleeves style is long and meant to run up to or beyond your knuckles. If you want you can easily fasten the sleeves (so as to make them shorter) with a basic accessory (bangle, elastic band etc.). If the size of this Dress is not large enough please let us know and we will get it custom made for you! It takes 30 days to get it custom made.
However, the dress on this post is ready for dispatch.
Actual measurements of the Ready Dress:
- Length from collar to end of Dress: approximately 1.07 cm
- Chest Area of Dress: 1.38 cm. This is the Actual Circumference of the product at the Chest Area level; i.e the all around circumference at this area. This is the circumference of the product starting from right under the beginning of the sleeve. The very particular Malas fabric can also stretch up to 10 cm.
Wear it as a luxurious Tunic Dress or Jalabiya. If you are a tall person it will fit you as a Tunic Dress; if you are short then it will fit as a Jalabiya/Caftan Dress. Whether you are a full (plus size) or thin person it does not matter; the dress will look stunning!
If you are looking to wear something truly ethnic and traditional but with a modern twist then this 'Toob' (dress) is it. Whether you wear it as a wedding dress, party or at the beach - the dress will shed a magical ethnic essence all around…those around you will look mystified (including yourself).

About the embroidery, the Women behind this creation and the Siwa Oasis:
Siwa, from the Berber word Siwa - "prey bird; protector of the sun god Amon-Ra", is one of Egypt's isolated settlements with mostly ethnic Berbers who speak a distinct language of the Berber family known as 'taSiwit'. Apart from being an enchanting and popular tourist attraction it is famous for its dates, olives and traditional craftsmanship. The symbols (motifs) in their traditional embroidery played (and still play) a very important role in communication within the distinct ethnic culture. Each motif on this garment has a specific meaning and it is said that they are mystical solar symbols related to the 'sun god Amon Ra'.
Women from the Siwa Oasis are known for their complex and beautiful handwork but little people know that: Siwan women are very often not available, not reliable and skilled only in the handwork not the details and quality of the final product produced. As if it were not enough the art of their craftsmanship is becoming extinct. Reem Shaheen works to preserve this tradition and greatly improve the quality of their work by: revitalizing the women's attitude towards the tradition, training them, showing them in how many different ways they can express themselves by using their hands and ethnic symbols and making them realize that the world will cherish and love the products they produce. Reem makes sure they work following traditional techniques and understand the importance of such techniques. She struggles to improve the women's economic conditions by getting them to create beautiful quality products that embody essence of their culture.
Buying this hand embroidered garment gives the poor women from the Siwa Oasis a means to enjoy the conveniences of modern life, be independent and not give up their ancestral traditions that are a part of our world’s cultural heritage.
It takes love, time and effort to bring to you this Dress.
If you were to search for a traditional wedding dress in Siwa or on-line you may find it, BUT: the buttons, symmetry of the embroidery, thread and Fabric will be of a very poor quality. Reem and FaridasPassions realised that the Siwan women's traditional Wedding Dress can truly embody the essence of Siwan women and Culture; but it needed some modifications to truly turn into a luxurious and timeless garment. Hence, Reem sourced high quality hard to find Malas Fabric, natural Cotton Threads and Real Rustic Mother of Pearl buttons (custom made for the dress). All these Egyptian fabrics and materials were then given to Reem's group of Siwan women who handcrafted the dress using traditional techniques and embroidery under Reem's strict supervision and instruction.
Only FaridasPassions can offer you this unique and magnificent Dress!
