Designer Limited Edition Egyptian Tunic Dress, handmade in Egypt with Egyptian Linen fabric and hand woven Moire (cotton and silk) fabric.
The embroidery on the KUKA tunic is handmade with patience and care by women in North Sinai, Al Arish (or El Arish), Egypt.
The ethnic symbols are made with traditional colours of Al Arish and their shapes have a cultural meaning. This special rare to find Al Arish embroidery is of a white and purplish colour. The unique technique with which they embroider was created in El Arish and passed on for centuries. To get a clear idea of the complexity and the colour of the embroidery please view the close up (zoom) pictures at the top of this page.
The linen fabric (main colour of this Tunic Dress) is of a Black colour.
The closing of the collar, the pockets and the end of the sleeves are adorned with hand woven Moire fabric of a purple shade. It is in the nature of the Moire fabric to emit different shades of the purple colour.
This Tunic comes with two side pockets. The collar can be kept open or totally closed using the buttons (round balls). The bottom (both sides) have splits (openings); these openings can be adjusted with a button (round ball).

Al Arish is distinguished by its clear blue water, widespread fruitful palmy wood on its coast, its soft white sand and traditional craftsmanship. Women in Al Arish (capital of North Sinai) are known for their complex and beautiful handwork but little people know that: women of Al Arish are very often not available, not reliable and skilled only in the handwork not the details and quality of the final product produced. As if it were not enough the art of their craftsmanship is becoming extinct. Reem Shaheen works to preserve this tradition and greatly improve the quality of their work by: revitalizing the women's attitude towards the tradition, training them, showing them in how many different ways they can express themselves by using their hands and ethnic symbols and making them realize that the world will cherish and love the products they produce. Reem makes sure they work following traditional techniques and understand the importance of such techniques. She struggles to improve the women's economic conditions by getting them to create beautiful quality products that embody essence of their culture.
Buying this hand embroidered garment gives the poor women of Al Arish a means to enjoy the conveniences of modern life, be independent and not give up their ancestral traditions that are a part of our world’s cultural heritage.
It takes love, time and effort to bring to you this Tunic.
