The picture that is hand painted on this Papyrus Sheet depicts ANUBIS; here he is sitting on a tomb protecting it. According to Egyptian Mythology in Ancient Egypt Anubis was the Lord of the Underworld associated with the mummification and protection of the dead for their journey into the afterlife. He was usually portrayed as a half human, half jackal. In the early myths he was also known as son of Ra. The distinctive black color of Anubis did not have to do with the jackal but with the color of rotting flesh and with the black soil of the Nile valley, symbolizing rebirth. Anubis was given by the gods the role of sovereignty of souls; he dictated the fate of souls by the weight of "truth", which was done by weighing the Heart against Ma'at (the Ancient Egyptian concept of truth).

About the Colours and Papyrus Art work:
Each painting is drawn by hand on pure Egyptian Papyrus. This Papyrus (from Cyperus plant) is handmade in the exact same way it was made by the ancient Egyptians (4000 BC); the first form of paper ever created. No two paintings are exactly the same. Please note that there is a big difference in quality between a drawing that is hand painted the traditional way onto the papyrus (i.e. what you will receive) and prints that are printed onto the papyrus sheet in a print shop. Hand Painted drawings are works of art created with time and effort; their colours are more dramatic, vibrant and much closer to the actual colours of the original pharaonic paintings. To tell the difference between a hand painted papyrus painting and a printed one - wet a very small part of the drawing; if the colour comes off then it is not an original hand painted drawing. About the FREE Papyrus Bookmark you will receive:
The drawing on the Papyrus Bookmark is a print. It is not painted by hand because the paint could tamper the book, notebook, agenda or diary in which you would use the bookmark. However the actual Papyrus on which the print is applied is of Pure Papyrus. The bookmark comes enclosed in a plastic cover.
